Egg Carton Masks
Crafts are the most fun when you can play with them after you have finished making them. That is exactly what you get when you make egg carton masks. These simple noses are so fast and fun to make, but the real enjoyment comes once they are finished and ready to be worn. So what will it be? Lion, tigers, bears? Or one of your favorite pets? The possibilities are endless if you decide to make egg carton masks.
Supplies
- Egg carton
- Scissors
- String
- Craft paint
- Paint brush
- Masking tape
- Paper
- Glue
Step 1. Cut up your egg carton. If you want to make a cat nose, a dog nose, a pig nose or any other short nosed masks then you want to cut around the bottom portions that hold the eggs. If you want to make a mouse nose, bird beak or other long, pointy nose mask then you want to cut out the part of the carton that sticks up between the eggs.
Step 2. Punch holes in the nose of the mask, and on the sides to tie the string. Using a hole punch is not the best because they holes do not have to be very big. Try using just a pencil or knitting needle to poke the holes instead. Also, if the edges of your masks are a little rough, use the masking tape to make them more even and to repair any gaps.
Step 3. Paint your egg carton masks using craft paint of your choosing. In this example there is a brown dog nose, a grey mouse nose, and a white cat nose.
Step 4. Once the paint is dry on your egg carton masks you can thread the string through. You can measure how long you will need by wrapping it around the back of your head and pulling the ends to the front, leaving enough string so you can tie it. Then you can cut that length in half. Loop one string through one hole of your mask and secure with a simple knot. Repeat this step on the other side.
Step 5. The last thing to do before your egg carton masks are complete is to add the finishing touches. If you want to add some extra spots or stripes now is the time to do it. If you want to add whiskers you can cut them out of paper and add them with some glue. Get creative and have fun. Then once the paint is completely dry you are ready to play with your newly fashioned masks.
Personalise the Craft
There are so many animal noses you can make using egg cartons. The picture shows a cat, a mouse, and a dog, but you could easily make pig snouts, beaks, or horns. Another option is to string some of the cartons together to make an elephant trunk. These egg carton masks would make a great addition to any dress up collection or could be used on your stuffed animals if they want to play pretend too.
